Synopsis: 

The S-band Exciter (SBE) course is designed to train the GN technician in the operation, preventive maintenance, and corrective maintenance of the SBE system. These objectives are accomplished by analysis of the system configuration, block diagrams, controls and indicators; schematic logic analysis to the applicable component/card level; and testing, adjustment, waveform observation, trouble analysis, and repair of all SBE units to include the following: 

• Reference and uplink carrier frequency generation.
• Uplink carrier upconversion.
• FT to FR translator.
• Uplink carrier modulation.
• Verification system.
• SBE Controller (IMC-8088 MPU) and interface.

• Satisfactorily completed a formal electronics course that included transistorized RF amplifiers, multipliers, mixers, hybrid couplers, micro-strip techniques, and phase-lock loop techniques.
• A knowledge of digital logic symbology and associated logic circuit operation and functions.
