Small Conversion Device (SCD) Operations (Linux)
Course Number: 433  Length: 5 Days

Synopsis:

This fast paced course is designed to train selected technicians to operate the Small Conversion Device. Course objectives are achieved through structured classroom discussions and interactive (hands-on) equipment exercises. Hands-on activities deal mostly with operations, but also include diagnostic testing. Student progress is measured through equipment exercises, final performance test, and a final written test.:

  • Directory Structure and Common Linux Commands.
  • FRU Locations and Hardware Setup.
  • SCD Software Operations.

Each student is furnished a Small Conversion Device Student Workbook, Skills Catalog, IP Operational Network (IONet), SCD Operator's Guide Release 5.0, and a NASA Communications (Nascom) SCD Installation and Troubleshooting Guide. The student may need additional documentation that accompanies the site-installed PTP or SCD. CCTG will advise the host location if site documentation is necessary to conduct the course.

Since one SCD is usually available on-site and the course stresses hands-on training, maximum course enrollment is six students.

Equipment required to be furnished by host location: Electro-Static Discharge grounding equipment, Multimeter, Screw Drivers, Nut Driver, Patch Cables, and the Small Conversion Device.

Prerequisites:

  • Knowledge of various telemetry formats and 4800 bit blocks.
