Synopsis: 

This fast paced course introduces the basic skills typically used when working with a LINUX-based computer system. Course objectives are achieved through structured classroom discussions, student assignments and interactive (hands-on) exercises. Hands-on activities deal mostly with Linux operations. Student progress is measured through equipment exercises, and a final performance test.. 

Skills checklists are provided to track student progress and each student performs a final comprehensive exercise. As an introductory course in LINUX, this course is highly recommended for general LINUX Users, LINUX System Operators and new LINUX System Managers 

Topics covered in this course include the following: 

• Introduction to LINUX systems.  
• System access. 
• Introduction to common LINUX commands. 
• Directory structure and file management. 
• Mail utility. 
• Operating environment and shell scripting. 

Suggested Prerequisites:  

• This course is designed for general LINUX users. Because individual user skills vary greatly, prior to enrolling students, supervisors and training coordinators may obtain a skills checklist from Training & Certification Office. This checklist may be used to evaluate potential student's abilities to determine whether a need for enrollment exists.

• Furnished, for each student, are a Linux Student Workbook, a Skills Checklist and a Handy Dandy Card of common Linux commands. Maximum student enrollment is the number of Linux machines available at the site (one per student).
